TWO DOORS DOWN – is an acoustic duo from Melbourne’s inner north. Over the last five years they have been writing and performing their own songs in various venues around Melbourne. Their songs range from ‘60’s influenced pop to atmospheric soundscapes all layered with rich vocal harmonies and supported by various guitars and mandolin.
Russell was drawn to heavier rock bands as a teenager and played drums from an early age. A healthy dose of Australian Pub Rock through his late teens and early twenties, along with what he calls the “Sex Pistols light bulb moment”, further fuelled his passion for energetic rock music. He is a keen devotee of the Power Pop genre and readily cites artists such as XTC, Matthew Sweet, The Smithereens, Marshall Crenshaw, Teenage Fanclub and Supergrass as having a major influence on his songwriting. Greed, equality, simplicity, truth and a love of nature are amongst some of the topics that appear in the lyrics to his songs. Visual artists such as Schwitters, Rauschenberg, Rodchenko and Eggleston and the films of Jim Jarmusch have also played a large part in shaping his work.
Greg also spent a lot of his formative years engaging in the Australian Pub Rock scene. The Church, Midnight Oil and Radio Birdman and were just a few of his favourite bands of the time. As a young man discovering The Rolling Stones (with Mick Taylor) and Little Feat turned him onto the beauty and wonder of great rock music. Radiohead, Beck and Gary Clarke Jnr have continued that journey. Being formally educated in music he is also influenced by classical guitarists such as Julian Bream, John Williams.
In 2018 Two Doors Down released their debut EP ‘If Onlys’, containing 5 of their more recently penned songs
