Jeremiah Rose is the banjo player and songwriter in Australian folk-jazz band The Willie Wagtails, and an accomplished solo performer. His music is dry and Australian, telling stories that are locally inspired, personal, working class, and smelling like the bush. His music breaks from folk norms by taking inspiration from a long career as a jazz trumpet player, and he plays the jazz tenor banjo in a slow swing style.
Jeremiah Rose’s debut album Strathbogie, recorded with the wonderful Willie Wagtails and penned and sung by Jeremiah on banjo is available now! There are songs about different things – about an ill-fated trip to Berlin to see a lover, about a bushfire at Christmas in the year 1990, about intentionally sabotaging your car so you don’t have to go to work, and other things.
