Chelsea Benton was destined for a career in the entertainment industry from a very early age, dancing, singing and roller-skating for audiences dragged into her parent’s house on Scotland Island in the Pittwater north of Sydney.
Growing up in a family of actors, she took naturally to the stage. She conducted and instructed the band during a break in Little Patty’s rehearsal at the South Sydney Leagues Club that her father was comparing. She also spent many an evening entertaining Stanley Holloway Junior and his wife back stage during the breaks between the matinee and evening performances of The Pleasure of His Company.
In her final years of high school Chelsea swapped to a school of the arts at Boronia. It was around this time that she started writing songs. Later, Chelsea was a finalist in Catch a Rising Star with one of her own compositions. She was considered for Johnny Young’s Young Talent Time, but being domicile in Sydney proved a problem.
Chelsea has appeared in such TV series as Neighbours and Thunderstone, and Australian feature film Touch and Go, as well as becoming a well known face in commercials in her early years.
Her break into adult entertaining came when in 2011 she entered the music programme at the Victoria College of the Arts. She has since appeared at numerous venues around the hills including the Sooki Lounge (Belgrave) and Wilde Thyme Café (Warburton), The Hive Pop Up Bar (Emerald), and The 1812 Theatre (Upper Ferntree Gully). She has performed at The Basin, End of the Line, and Pave Festivals, and been featured on AMR (internet radio), 3MDR and 3WBC (community radio stations).
She is a prolific writer of songs, and has composed a piano piece which was played by her tutor at a VCA performance event. She is backing singer to Skeet’s Spare Tyre Politics and has recently formed her own band Undercurrent with Henry Butcher on violin and Skeet Mate/Steve Welsh on guitar. Her songs are soulful and deeply moving.
